Stop giving opinions

There’s a difference between sharing and seeking feedback.

BACKSTORY

Consider the back and forth collaboration, legal jargon, design edits, and proof-reading.
All that hard work behind-the-scenes and you decide to tell somebody what they think of the current state of their work.
You don’t know the backstory, nor do you need to. So hold from chiming in.

OBSERVE

In a professional setting, it is more valuable to be aware if somebody is SHARING their work with you, because they’re excited about the new work, OR if they need the insight to further the piece of work.
Determine which it is by ASKING or LISTENING.
Chances are you don’t know the backstory of decision making so hold your personal thoughts.

INTEGRATE

Don’t be the critic who always says what they think if nobody gave you permission to speak.
Ask if somebody would like to hear your perspective on a specific topic.
Integrate yourself in the conversation and your perceived value will rise.
