FILE Brand Collection Launch

The creative agency and design collective FILE Brand will unveil its first line of clothing and accessories for the digital creative and artist. The collection is set to launch on the site’s shop HERE on November 23, 2018 in time for Black Friday.

Taking references from design field, FILE’s first release is filled with bold statement pieces with full-on graphics for everyday wear.

This line is a solid reference for how digital creatives can style their own branded ensembles with pieces that speak to a niche culture.

“File’s focus is to allow creatives to express themselves and identify with similar individuals at-a-glance. The merchandise is a tangible good to support the mission of sharing our experiences in the design field, and showcasing artists,” says Founder and CEO, Maca Masse.

How did the idea for the line come about?

MM: The line was born from references and nuance experiences throughout my everyday life and design career. It’s been a four year process that’s been interrupted by a full-time job, freelance work, lack of budget, and excuses.

But the result of this line is what happens when you bring on the right people and commit longer than 90-days. File is officially established with the launch of the merchandise product.

What was the design process like?

MM: Like all of my projects, this started as an unclear idea molded and iterated with time: Idea. Concept. Mood board. Development. Design. Edits. Production. Launch.

Six weeks before Black Friday, we lost our production manufacturing team and had to figure out our next solution. We cut it down to the wire, but like the saying goes: “If you’re not embarrassed by your initial launch, you launched too late.”

We just had to get it out. That was our ultimate goal.

What makes this brand different than any other out there?

MM: File’s focus is to allow creatives to express themselves and identify with similar individuals at-a-glance. The merchandise is a tangible good to support the mission of sharing our experiences in the design field, and showcasing artists.

Metaphorically, we are living the dream of starving artists turned into thriving artists. Our studio has consulted and supported multi-million dollar brands, and our creative director has mentored many artists to new opportunities and high paying positions in short time frames. We live, breathe, eat, and sleep design.

Planting our flag is just the first step.

Where did you gather inspiration from?

MM: File was originally inspired from a random t-shirt seen in 2014. Some brand took the Internet Explorer “e” icon and put it all over the sleeves. Their brand was not for designers or computer culture. It was just a novelty idea for that one shirt. I did some research and realized there was an opportunity to create something special for designers and creators such as me and my friends.

What do you hope you will achieve with this new venture?

MM: To do what Nike has done for athletes, File aims to do for digital creators.

The short-term goal is to identify with “visual” designers, and later expand to many creative types. We believe our cursor insignia was the perfect representation of a known icon that each and every creator sees everyday and can relate to.
